“What do you wish you can learn in your architecture school? “
The things that I wish I can learn in architecture school is practical learning style. In Malaysia, we know the educational system is more to learning for the books or other media, and take an exam to pass it. But how we hard working to learn that knowledge, if we don't have practical, we don't how to use the knowledge apply in real life. Example like building construction and technology, we just took our time listen to the lecture in class, do the assignments assigned by lecturer and pass the exam. Course outline of this subject, don't have visit any sites to learn, or go to made lab to show us how the construction process is. To made us more understanding and how to use in our design assignment or project. Because of that, maybe after two years or graduation, we still have many question marks of the building construction and technology.
Apart of this, i wish i can learn use of other architecture software such as Photoshop, SketchUp, Lumion, Vray and so on. Lecturer requires students to present their design in a way that require the assistance of these basic skills but failed to guide students to use them. Sometime lecturer want student to present their design in professional way by refer from books or internet, but professional way are using other technical skills that we don't know how to use. Although school had provided some basically technical skills for us to learn, but it is far from enough.
Other things that i wish can learn is architecture school is sketching. Every architecture student should have learnt to sketch, and keeping this as a habit, whether any time or anywhere. If very weak in sketching, although we have brilliant ideas in mind, we also cannot sketch well to present his design development ideas. When we find it hard to sketch, we will other methods to show it, such as use digitally or even using software. It will waste a lot of time and sometimes will affect us design thinking become rigid, because software are not flexible than sketching.
I wish i have more practical learning, know use more architecture software and have learn quick free-hand sketches to communicate a design proposal because I know this is my weakness.

What do you wish you can learn in your architecture school?
As an architecture student after so many years study about architecture, I found out architecture are wide and a lot of things to learn. But community work are hardly architecture students can learn in school.
Kuala Sepetang is a good chances to let student to understand the real project. There are limited chances that students have the opportunity to experience that kind of project. Community project can let student think and learn from all the small details. Small details is the most importance part in the building design, it may change the aesthetic and function of the building. When you give attention to the smaller details, you touch your clients in their emotion. Most of the student may lost when they doing it on site, do not know which technic should apply to the materials. So, it is a chances to let students, make theory into reality. Architecture students will feel proud also when the project is done, they will remember the part that they did for the building. And I it make difference from others architecture student.
In school architecture most of students only learning the theory of design the aesthetic of a buildings, and ignored the important of the practicalities in real life. Most of the time, result of design on a paper and model are totally difference when building is built on site. The condition of soil sometimes are not well, the materials cannot support that kind of spend, most of the time building cannot built according to the design features that architect want. So, students has to learn from real project, it can let student learn on both design idea and construction details.

“What do you wish you can learn in your architecture school?"
In architecture school, students are exposed to design and building construction projects, and believe that the altitude in study determine the altitude of tomorrow. So am I as a new student of the first year. But soon, I realised that there is something more precious to gain, and there is someone who inspired me throughout the process, and create a wonderful journey for me. This is the reason that I am strong.
As for me, I think communication skill is the most important skill that I wish to learn in architecture school. During communication process, the message need to be clearly informed and understood by the receiver to avoid misunderstanding. A polite way of communication is important to avoid conflict in any situation too. But, first of all, the communicator need to be polite and respect the people surrounding them. By doing this, a professional way of communication among young architecture students can be learnt in architecture school.
Apart from that, a good attitude is also important not only as an architecture student but also as a person, because the surrounding external environment is the reflection of us. The best version of us is important to protect us at any angle of life. Thus, a good attitude of an architecture student is essential to bring up a better future of tomorrow. Good attitude involve politeness, be humble and work hard, keep learning and be punctual to class.
Besides, a good self management skill , time management skill, team management skill are skills that I wish I can learn in architecture school. This is because these are all the first leap for successful projects of tomorrow. Seft management skill is, student is required to accomplish a certain task within a period of time and must complete them regardless any emotional and personal matter that comes along. For time management skill, student is required to accomplished a task, and the quality of the task must be equal to the amount of time given, thus a timetable or a planner is needed to record the amount of time nedded for the task. Whereas, as for team management, a team which consist of a number of students that needed to work together to achieve the same goal. Thus a proper amount of work must be well-devide. A leader is selected, and the leader is going to make major decicion for the group, hence other members of group can give their own opinions.
For me, proper communication skill, good attitude, and good management skills (self, time and team) are the skills that I wish I can learn in architecture school.

From what I learnt in architecture today, architecture is create building like a objects/ shelter to take consideration of the humanity study and physical structure. In architecture school is to educate the student learnt the archipatient and the architecture work space environment. It's collecting the architecture knowledge centre which about the creativity of the architecture student, the object shifting, the architecture talks and the architecture thinking. So architecture students have to create something to era change imagination, to create something to respond to the environment and to solve the architecture environment problem. Architecture school is a good place to give us to learnt/ to test/ to understand the architecture process of design development and the materials how to support for architecture products.
In our generation in architecture school, I think we should learnt more new technology, technical of the digital tools to ready going out to work in architecture firm. The individual studio space and facilities support to give a good environment to student for architecture studies. And also We should work more in culture to push more about the education/teaching program for sustainability, supporting facilities, culturism, the space connection, environment responding...etc. It's can to create new atmosphere in our country/ in new architecture world.

Architecture school is the community school, especially lecture while giving the projects and we may to start work together, do communication with friends such like critique idea sharing with others, the space of study and create a small fun activity/ to relax in studio to release their stress and fleshing their mind who worked over normal working hours. I have faced the problems design test failure, like design shape not convincing to our client, research architecture data insufficient, constructability of the design, model working space insufficient....etc. but the architecture school can give all the supporting facilities studies and it's a good educate space for us.
Rendering is the one of the education program in architecture school to teach us the quality of the architecture environment and the building emotion/feeling itself . 2 types of rendering to be use are manual and digital/computerize.
Manual rendering work common practicing in architecture school are markers pen, water colours, charcoals, pastels and etc. The benefits of the manual rendering is to reveal the emotion and the feeling of art for our design. And to knows that most of history building are done by manual work. Digital/computerize is new technologies and it's also part of the program in architecture school today. This to help student to generate their idea/imagination works and create such awesome work in their design. Most of architect was to used in their building design today and it's efficiency with quality of their design product. The products available in market now are Rhino/grasshopper, Luminion, sketch up, autocadd, microstation, revit,3d max....etc.
Environment architecture school is important in our architecture studies. It's should relate to nature and it's give balance to our time, our work program/studies, our personal healthy, our social life..etc.

What do you wish you could learn in architecture school?
I am a diploma student from alfa college. After graduated, I came to ucsi for my Degree in architecture. I had experienced two different way of education. For my diploma course, it more focusing on construction and practical applications of design. But in ucsi, we are more focus on Design Idea, Development of design, presentation skill and also theory subject. I am glad that I could learn from both different approach.
After I had study in architecture for 4 year, there are many topics that I wish to learn is not covered throughout this education which are fundamental to the success of a firm in industry. These include topics such as knowledge of the law, working in multi-disciplinary teams and a mature understanding of cost management.
Besides these theory subject, what I really wish is to learn something from real life project. I had join Indonesia trip last year for my experiencing of architecture. We had visited a lot of architecture firm also and school. What really inspired me during the trip was the conversation between a community architecture firm in Jogjakarta.
There a 5 young architect who just graduated a few year ago work as a volunteer. They are full of passion in helping their community and design low cost building for the poor. During the trip, they had bring us to one of their community project – Black Bamboo Community Center. For the people of Kampung Pakuncen regular meeting is a basic need. Due to the population increases, houses were too small to host meetings. Meetings were hardly effective because of many members were excluded, thus risk to degrade social cohesion. This is why they decide to build this Community center. The designer suggest the use of local black bamboo for the project. The joinery system with steel bolt and mortar infills on primary floor joints was rather new for the volunteers at Kampung Pakuncen. However, as confidence was gained through participations of the architects during construction.
Through this rather democratic and more equal architecture, everyone learn something new about bamboo construction. This is including community women who helped to insert sand-cement mortar into the bamboo joints. This is what I really like about architecture compare to other… By joining this community project, we could understand more toward culture and people. Besides, we also learn new knowledge of construction during hands-on consturction. I hope that we could join some of this community project.
Another example of community project at Kuala Sepetang. I am repentant that I couldn’t join this project. These is really a great experience which I wish to learn from architecture school. A spirit that contributing to the community with our architecture knowledge. This place had become a great place for children to learn and gather. This is the significance of architecture work.
